Nationalism Theory And Education In Nation Crisis

Happening of the Second Sino-Japanese War made China into a serious crisis, but also made national belief of Chinese grown, in this case, from a strong sense of responsibility to the state and the nation, intelligentsia tried to create the founder of publications, and write book for preaching nationalism. The group of professors in the Central University in Republican China founded the "New Nation" magazine (February1938to June1939),in order to revitalize the nation, win the war and construct the state, it tried to instill national consciousness, enhance patriotic consciousness of society, and made some positive impact at that time.This article will set nationalist theory of the "New Nation" as the center and try to analyze with historical background of rising nationalism in1930s.The article contains four types of contents:First, the characteristics of rising nationalism in nation crisis time.Because of the stimulation of national crisis,Chinese ideologists’thought about nationalism reflected the characteristics of the times,it contained the rethinking about the Chinese nationalism theory,and the emphasis of monism in Chinese nation form,and it also paid attention to the national spirit and pined it’s hope on nation renaissance leading by culture renaissance.These all were related to Chinese nationalism theory in the past.Second,the background of founding of the "New Nation".the "New Nation" was founded after the war broking and the moving of the the Central University in Republican China,its style inherited the magazines which The group of professors in the Central University in Republican China founded past,and it also was influenced by the Central University in Republican China’s academic style which was advocated by Luo Jia-lun after his assuming the position of the Central University in Republican China’s president.Through the description of the above factors,we can get the initial impression of the "New Nation".Third,the discussion about nationalism of the "New Nation".It consists of two parts:one,the monism theory of Chinese nation in the "New Nation".In1930s,Chinese ideologists had deep thought in the constitution of Chinese nation,the "New Nation" also made a set of Consanguinity base, culture constitutes the core of the concept of nation, this nation monism had some common in point of view as "Chinese is one nation" of Fu si-niann and Gu Jie-gang.another one,the trying of constructing a universal nationalism theory of the "New Nation".The "New Nation" tried to summarize the ethnic composition of the elements,and on this basis, explored the relationship between nationality and the nation-state,with the establishment of a national character as the core of cultural nationalism systems,this theory had correct and penetrating views and some contradictions.Forth, the educational thought of the "New Nation":"for the future ","for the state".In the early time of the Second Sino-Japanese War,there was an appeal to use "wartime education" instead of normal education,the editors of the "New Nation" countered this view,they elucidated the the importance of education to maintain nation’s life and train person for the future needs of the state,and the "New Nation" also summarized past education’s fault,and provided some constructive comments for education’s improving.Finally,this analysis will summarize characteristics which based on the above categories of the "New Nation".Its nationalism theory sets the nationality as the center,and emphasizes the nationality,constancy, systematicness of education.these thought is not only the performance of time,but also the independent explorations of the editors. Because of this,the researching of the nationalism thought of "New Nation" can make people know the thought of the professors in the Central University in Republican China,either supplement the study of nationalism in nation crisis.
