Asia-Pacific area has always been a major component of America’s global strategysince the middle of the twentieth century. Its foreign polices have also been on thechange at different periods. Different administrations adjusted the Asia-Pacific strategyin their own way. From the moment that Barack Obama became the new president ofAmerica, he immediately made a high-profile announcement that “U.S.is back to Asia-Pacific” and abandoned Gorge W. Bush’s Unilateralism and the long-term neglect overAsia-Pacific area. At the same time, it started the strategic eastward movement inaspects like politics, economy and military. The Obama administration officials haverepeatedly stressed its Asia-Pacific properties on various occasions, thus activelyinvolving it in Asia-Pacific affairs and hopefully improving America’s influence in thisarea.Behind the United States “Back to Asia strategy”, there lie a variety of causes. Asfor America, it suffered the domestic economic slump after the financial crisis in theyear of2008.By contrast the economy was thriving in the Asia-Pacific region which hasbeen generating huge economic benefits. What`s more, traditional allies as well as non-traditional partners of the United States also hope to strengthen ties with the UnitedStates to maintain their national interests in this region. In addition, with the rapidincrease of China’s comprehensive national strength, the United States began to worryabout its leadership being challenged and threatened, which motivates the U.S. tostrengthen the bond with China`s neighboring countries as to contain China together. The Obama administration’s Asia-Pacific policy has extremely far-reachinginfluence on this region. As the world is gathering its attention on Asia-Pacific region, the international status and international importance of this region has been increasing rapidly, soon it turns into the world’s political, economic and military focus. Thesituation of this area is filled with tension and uncertainty with so many major forcesexercising a game of competition like the United States, Japan, China, Russia andASEAN. In this regard, as an important role in the region, China should be fullyprepared to continue to pursue its own development in the complicated regionalenvironment, actively safeguard regional peace and spare no effort to expand China’sinternational influence based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
