Since the1980s, the acceleration of the process of rural modernization has made it possible for the male labor force of rural areas to break the regional boundaries and a massive number of them have moved to the industrial sectors of cities. Consequently this gives rise to the issue of left-behind women, namely the wives of those male migrants’ workers. These left-behind women have played the roles of farmer, carer and educator. One thing worth mentioning is that they are playing an increasingly import part in the field of democracy since villages become more autonomous. However the reality is far from satisfactory. On one hand the left-behind women enjoy more freedom and a more tolerant environment since there is less intervention coming from their spouses or male counterparts. On the other hand they are on the double pressure and still are biased when it comes the politics of villages. The existing problem compels more researches to be conducted. This article takes the left-behind women of Heyang County of Shaanxi Province for example to tackle the problem. An approach of multi-disciplinary theories and methods is adopted and questionnaires as well as interviews have been used to collect the data related to their political consciousness and political behavior. The factors affecting these women taking part in the politics of villages are analyzed and explored from the perspectives of culture, policy, woman organization and their qualifications. In the end suggestions are put forward to help left-behind women have more share of political power. The significance of the research lies in that it not only contributes to a better understanding of the issue but provides a new way of conducting research in the field of the citizen’s political participation behavior.
