With the increasing economic globalization, countries all over the world have achieved great accomplishments in terms of economic and social development as well as living standards of the citizens, which accelerates the process of urbanization to some extent. At this level, China also enjoys flourish urbanization, which results in rapid expansion of city area and complicated urban village administration issues. The urban villages, however, give rise to a series of problems such as chaotic housing construction, crowded living space and poor hygienic conditions, which often end up with health and wealth safety issues. In this regard, the expansion of urban villages invariably damages city image. It also restricts the effective use of land resources and therefore hinders sustainable city economic growth. This thesis tentatively analyzes a feasible Renovation Mode of Guangzhou Liede Urban Village, a successful model of harmonious coordination between urban village renovation and villagers’benefit protection, following the "government’s leading, villagers’participating" pattern. The author accordingly proposes a strategy for urban village renovation and reconstruction:①Sustainable development. With a holistic city renovation planning, the author proposes a balanced model of effective resource use and environment protection in a sustainable and harmonious way that is based on regional overall consideration and the future development of the city.②Government leading. Following the "government leading, villagers participating" pattern, the author suggests a flexible and adjustable mode of benefit protection to put city renovation plans into practice.③Interest coordination. To establish a scientific benefit coordination mechanism in which all parties of stakeholders feel free to compete for their interest in this process.④Benefit protection. To protect villagers’equal rights to private real estate and lawful incomes, the author recommends a feasible approach to social security system based on reasonable compensation for urban village renovation and reconstruction.(5)Governmental supervision. Carrying out risk analysis and risk control strategies by governments to ensure success in urban village renovation projects.⑥Maximizing interests. Conforming to maximal public interests principle, the author supports justifiable and diverse urban village renovation and reconstruction modes.
