The Social Change Research Of Weize Village In Shilin County

Weize village is the seat of Changhu Town government in Shilin County. It’s located in the heartland of Shilin County. And it’s a multi-national community lived with Han and Yi nationality. Due to Yi nationality account for the vast majority, Weize takes on nationality’s characteristic. Due to living with Han and Yi nationality, Weize has multi-national feature. One of Kuige’s members——Li Youyi had done a comprehensive survey to the village in1939. His survey involved all aspects of Weize village’s social and economic life.What’s more, he wrote a book——Economy about Han and Yi Multi-national Area, for which Weize village became famous.This thesis is based Li Youyi, Li Yan, Yang Yibo, Chu Tunan and Shi Zhecun’s surveys and researches to Shilin in the period of Republic of China. It makes use of local chronicles, Yearbook and the data from my field survey; then does to the village in long-time. Through the investigation and study of Weize village’s social economy, political activities, marriage and family, religion and so on in the two periods, it explains the social changes from the changes of different times, further revealing the cause of social changes, and showing the multi-national community’s unique in Yunnan frontier.This thesis uses the research results of cultural anthropology, ethnology and sociology as the basis of historical data, which breaks strict discipline boundaries. It combines history to reality that doing some comparison to the social life of two different times in the same place, which highlights the social change of two historical periods in Yunnan Multi-national community. At the same time, it compares the Han community with multi-national community in Republic of China, which exhibits multi-national feature. The formers hardly touched the research to the social changes of Yunnan multi-national community, so it is a new attempt in the previous basis.Because of historical factors, there are different stages to the relationship between Han and Yi in Weize village. So the socio-economic life has different changes. It is proper to multi-national community. In the period of Republic of China, there was national inequality in some degree for Weize’s villagers, the lower farmers were oppressed and had hard life. After the founding of the PRC, under the principle of national equality, unity and common development, New China forms new national relation, Han and Yi nationality go along with each other. However Yi nationality’s national custom continues all the same and becomes the only sign of distinguishing them.The period of the Republic of China and today is two different times, they constitute a long history and the history links them together. The Weize village’s social change is the change of multi-national community, change of the times, change of China country, change of farmers’ life.
