English writing is one of the most important skills in the process of learning English, and it embodies the competence of learners’English language and the ability to use the language. How to improve English writing teaching and reduce students’errors in writing process is the problem which a great many senior high school English teachers have been exploring. This research is mainly to analyze the errors that learners make by using error analysis (EA) approach. On account of those errors, the researcher uses error correction to improve learners’ English writing skills. EA theory indicates that error should be regarded as a natural phenomenon in the process of learners’internalization of the target language instead of avoidance. Through collecting, classifying and scientifically analyzing errors, the teacher can adopt suitable strategies and apply the effective methods to improve learners’foreign language level in the real teaching activities. This study attempts to answer the following two research questions:1. How to apply EA to correct writing errors in senior high school English writing classes?2. What are the effects of the EA application in senior high school English writing teaching?The research subjects are a class of senior high school students in this study. Firstly, a questionnaire is used to know about the present situation of English writing teaching in order to prepare for action research designing in advance. Then the researcher arranges the writing tasks, uses EA approach to analyze the students’ writing texts, analyzes and interprets errors. Finally, the researcher concludes the learners’ achievements in each writing task by questionnaires, interviews and classroom observations.The research shows:EA approach can be applied into the English writing classes. And it can be used to correct errors in students’ compositions by self-correction, group discussion and teacher explanation. Through error discussion and error correction in the English writing class, students not only correct errors but also review their insufficient knowledge effectively, at the same time; the frequency of the same error decreases gradually.Based on the above findings, EA approach plays a crucial role in helping learners reduce some errors in the English writing tasks. However, quite a number of errors still appear over and over again. As a whole, this study helps to improve English writing teaching. Meanwhile, learners have a new recognition to errors and a new understanding to English writing.
