There are a lot of phenomena about metaphor in English classes in senior high school, however, for most of us, the part about metaphor are always ignored. This thesis is mainly about how to cultivate and improve the metaphorical thinking competence in order to connect the achievements of metaphor in real world with the English classes, thus arousing students’interest to learn English. At the same time, teachers can actually focus on the significant enlightenment of metaphor on English teaching.There are five chapters in all about this thesis, of which the third and the fourth parts are of the utmost importance. The first chapter is introduction of the background, the aim and the significance of the paper. After this part, the writer took a careful analysis of the teachers’ lack of knowledge in teaching and of the students’lack of metaphorical skills in learning. The second chapter is the overall summary of the present situation on metaphor home and abroad. At the same time, the writer thinks that metaphor exists everywhere in our daily life, not only in human language, but in human mind and actions. The third chapter is the main part of the thesis, including four theories, to which English teaching and studying are closely related, while the fourth part is of the same importance, according to the survey, we know that the students’knowledge and understanding as well as practicing are still needed to be improved. Meanwhile, this thesis focuses on the related part between metaphorical competence and the foreign language teaching in terms of vocabulary, grammar and discourse.This thesis aims to demonstrate and further discuss the feasible method and means of cultivating and strengthening high school students’metaphorical thinking competence on the basis of predecessors’achievements, furthermore, we lay emphasis on the positive use of metaphor in senior high schools, and also discuss how to cultivate the high school students’ metaphorical thinking competence from the lexical, grammatical and discoursal aspect, thus improving students’ achievement in English study and their communicative skills in real situation, as well as the teachers’teaching...
