China is in the stage of deepening reform and opening up. Socialist market economy and socialist democratic politics are constantly developing, which simulates the increasing demands on the quality of citizens. The junior high school students are in an important period of physical and mental development, their self-awareness and independence gradually increase. The junior high school education is the highest stage of Compulsory Education in China, representing the universal basic education level, so junior high school civics and citizenship education has an important mission. Social Studies is recognized worldwide as the most important courses of civics and citizenship education in schools. As one of the most developed western constitutional democracy, civics and citizenship education achievements of the United States are remarkable. In this thesis, by comparing Sino-US junior high school civics and citizenship education of social studies curriculum, the author aims to provide some implications for the construction of civics and citizenship education curriculum system with Chinese characteristics.There are five parts in this thesis. The introduction clarifies the research background, concepts definition, research review and research methods. Chapter II summaries and compares the evolution of Sino-US junior high school civics and citizenship education of social studies curriculum from the vertical angle. Chapters II and III make a horizontal comparison analysis of the curriculum standards, text cases of textbooks. Chapter IV summarizes and discusses the similarities, differences, and the reasons for the differences of Sino-US junior high school civics and citizenship education of social studies curriculum. Finally, the author proposes to establish civics and citizenship education system of Social Studies with Chinese characteristics on the theoretical basis of Marxism Anthropology, which mainly includes the goal, the contents system, the construction of civics and citizenship education teachers and civics culture incubation.
