Teaching was based primarily on teaching materials that directly affect teachingresults. In order to optimize teaching materials, multinational scholars have carriedout large-scale comparative studies. In spite of implementation of the new curriculumreform in China, there are still a lot of problems with mathematics teaching materials. This thesis analyzes and compares the A version textbook of the PEP with theAmerican "Core-Plus" textbook in terms of contents, presentation, and exercise withthe literature method, statistical analysis method and comparative method, aiming togives suggestions for the further development of our mixed materials and makevaluable advice for cultivating students innovation and improving their ability ofapplying and solving problems from the angle of Chinese textbooks writing in orderto make teaching material system more perfect; also provides appropriate help forteachers to arrange teaching activities based on teaching theories according tostudents’ needs. The above comparison supports the following conclusions:(1)From the teaching materials content settings, Chinese textbooks emphasizeformulas, while American textbooks pay more attention to basics, importantknowledge points and its practical application. Compared with American matchedCPMP software with teaching, the combination of Chinese textbooks with computeris stiff;(2)From the presentation of teaching materials, both American and Chinesetextbooks have their own characteristics. Chinese teaching materials have richcontents involving a broad range in which concepts and theorems focus on trainingstudents’ ability of solving problems. However, content settings in Americantextbooks have strict logic and examples derive from things students are interested in.Concepts and theorems pay more attention to students understanding;(3)From the exercise design, Chinese textbooks have exercises in quantity that have no background and only examine imitative abilities. However a large quantity ofexploratory exercises in American textbooks emphasize digging deep into teachingmaterials by setting many basic small questions to guide students to solve complexproblems. Exercises are settled by various levels to check the missing. The averagelevel of difficulty of American textbooks is higher than Chinese ones;(4)The writing principles of U.S. version teaching materials: American versiontextbooks are compiled based on the fusion of trigonometry and geometry. Theingenious combination of both trigonometry and geometry develop students’modeling ability by visual thinking;(5) The characteristics of American textbooks in terms of developing students’interests and abilities: All examples and exercises in American version textbooks arederived from practical background and things students are interested in. Thearrangement of the teaching process is based on students’understanding and layemphasis on the discovery and demonstration of knowledge by themselves. At thesame time, lots of inquiry questions in teaching materials cultivate students’innovative research ability; On the basis of above, some suggestions for our textbooks writing can be putforward: contents arrangement should be based on students’ easy master ofknowledge; increasing the materials that students are interested in; digging deep intoteaching materials and providing both auxiliary teaching computer software andbrochure introducing how to operate the software; diversify exercises levels; settingexploring exercise and multiple small problems to disperse difficulty, and so on.
