This thesis used a time-line as the main clue, which divided McLaren’s academic life into two stages with the year1994as a separatrix. At the same time introduced some social contexts within and without his works, as well as some related famous critical pedagogues. McLaren has always been a scholar who concerns about theories, as well as the whole world’s political and economic situations, under this condition, we can see both the academic development and social struggles in North America and some other countries in his works; McLaren’s leftist stance in the United States, make his works under a lot of debates and criticisms, so we can see two sides of the struggles, and grasp a more comprehensive understanding of history context; also, McLaren as a Marxist is not started from the moment of entering the academic world, his changing theoretical focus and footholds, showing us an interdisciplinary, constantly self-denial, and growing scholar image; the last, McLaren as one of the founders of critical Pedagogy, made considerable contributions to the expansion and development of critical pedagogy theory, especially in the term of introducing Marxism to critical pedagogy.
