Emotional intelligence is a ability of people’s perception of internal and external environment. It is an essential component of the talent, which has a great influence on students’ character growth and academic achievement. English, as an communicative subject, which means high emotional intelligence are needed for students to cope with the challenge of English learning. Previous scholars pay less attention on the research of emotional intelligence based on specific subjects. Therefore, this research does survey on high school students’emotional intelligence in English learning, which has important theoretical and practical value on the cultivation of students’ emotional intelligence in English learning.Based on the foreign and domestic representative researches concerning emotional intelligence, the researcher has developed the Questionnaire of High School Students’ Emotional Intelligence in English Learning, which includes25questions. The dimensions of questionnaire involve recognition and analysis of emotions, expression of emotions, evaluation of emotions, regulation and control of emotions, utilization and training of emotions. The factor analysis and reliability test of the questionnaire show that it has good reliability and validity, and it can be used as research tool to measure and evaluate high school students’emotional intelligence in English learning.The study does systematical research to high school students’ emotional intelligence in English learning by issuing283questionnaires, interviewing18high school students and observing9English classes. The results show that high school students have more problems with emotional expression and management, such as lack of emotional words, single way of emotional expression, unable to properly control negative emotions, and so on. After analysis and discussion on these problems, some suggestions are put forward as follow to effectively improve students’emotional intelligence in English learning:the teacher should improve the ability of training students’emotional intelligence; construct training mode which combines evaluation and tutoring; parents should pay more attention on the training of children’s emotional intelligence; students should strengthen the consciousness of self-cultivation of emotional intelligence; school should explore effective training strategies of emotional intelligence.
