With the gradual increase in people’s living standard, life style of youth has undergone significant changes (from dynamic to static), such as playing online games, watching TV, sitting for a long time for learning, and no housework. Lifestyle of youth has become "static". However, adolescence is the peak period for growth and development of bone tissues, so moderate exercise training is of great significance to promote bone growth and development of youth and increase the peak bone mass. At present, exercise time of youth has been reduced due to excessive burden of studies and long-time sitting (such as playing games, watching TV). Due to the lack of enough mechanical stimulation for bone tissues, bone conditions of youth have been greatly affected. Studies show that different exercises will have different impacts on bone growth and development. As a classic mode of exercise, rope skipping is characterized by simple equipment, and no limitations in season, age, gender, and location. Also, in the process of rope skipping, bone tissues will be under greater ground reaction force and tension of muscle on bone. Nevertheless, there are rare reports on how rope skipping affects bone health of youth. What about its impacts on bone growth and development? In recent years, the survey on physical health of Chinese students shows that the physical health of Chinese youth is worrisome, and factors that harm health of youth, such as obesity, and reduction on physical quality, are obvious. The Party and the state have paid great attention to the reduction on youth’s physical health. On May7,2007, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council released the Opinions on Enhancing Youth Physical Education and Physical Health. On Feb.15,2011, the State Council issued the National Fitness Program (2011-2015)(No.[2011]5). Some experts pointed out that the primary cause of reduction on youth physical health is the reduction of physical activities. As a simple and easy mode of exercise, rope skipping is popular among youth, but there are rare reports on how rope skipping affects physical health of youth.Based on the above, the present study took the rope skipping as the mode of exercise intervention.100youth students were selected as the research objects for the3-year experimental study. Purpose of the study:Based on the3-year rope skipping exercise of youth students, and by testing the indicators, such as bone mineral density, bone strength, flexibility, vital capacity, and vertical jumping in situ, the study verified roles of the3-year rope skipping exercise on youth students from the perspectives of bone growth and development and physical health. It provides a good model of exercise and theoretical basis to promote bone growth of youth and improve their physical health.Experimental method:this study selected100youth students who were randomly divided into two groups (50students per group). The experimental group had a3-year rope skipping training. After the experiment, an ultrasonic bone sonometer was used to inspect the bone mineral density and bone strength. Relevant devices were used to test relevant physical health indicators (forward bending with sitting position, vital capacity, vertical jumping in situ, and balance on one foot with eyes closed). SPSS11.0software was used to test all data for analysis.Experimental results:1. After the3-year rope skipping training, compared to the control group, the BMD of the jumping rope group was significantly increased (P<0.01), and their bone strength was also greatly increased (P<0.01), indicating that the3-year rope skipping training can promote the bone growth and development of youth and significantly increase the bone mineral density and bone strength.2. After the3-year rope skipping training, and compared with the control group, physical health indicators of the experimental group, eg. vital capacity (P<0.01), vertical jumping in situ (P<0.01), balance on one foot with eyes closed (P<0.01), underwent significant changes. Indictors, such as height (P>0.05), weight (P>0.05), and BMI (P>0.05), had changes, but not significant. The obesity rate of the experimental group was lower than that of ordinary students. It means that the3-year rope skipping training can significantly affect some indicators and improve the physical health of youth students. Conclusions of the study:1. Long-time rope skipping exercise can accelerate the bone growth and development, greatly increase the bone mineral density and bone strength, and help improve bone health of youth. 2. Long-time rope skipping exercise has positive effects on physical health of youth.3. Rope skipping is a mode of exercise that can promote bone growth and development of youth and improve their physical health.
