With rapid economic development, We are faced with more severe tight resource constraints, environmental pollution and ecosystem degradation. The Eighteenth National Congress of theCommunist Party has discussed the ecological civilization as a single part the first time, and placed theconstruction of ecological civilization at the height of the overall layout, which indicating the urgencyand importance of protecting the environment. So, we must strengthen the study of environmentalprotection. The present domestic study of environmental problems clearly shows out four kinds oftendencies, that is putting more attention to urban areas but less to rural areas; more to economy but lessto the society; more to system but less to behaviour; and more to macroscopy but less to microscopy. Most previous studies are about urban environment, engineering and technical measures, economicmanagement, system and policy, and macro theory; but few focus on individual ecological behavior.Government is the leader in environmental management, but broad public participation is a moreimportantly sustainable element. So it is necessary to strengthen the study of individual ecologicalbehavior.Taihang Mountain area is located in the west of Hebei Province. It is the ecological security shelterof the North China Plain, and an irreplaceable role on regulating the water resource situation in Beijingand Tianjin, which means the area needs sustainable development urgently. But with the deterioration ofthe ecological environment, the development of this fragile area has become unsustainable. Peasants hasmost closed contacts with the environment, and impact the environment extensively, directly andradically. Peasants is the main factor causing environmental problems. To solve environmental problems,we must guide the peasants participate in consciously. But the premise is to find out the characteristicsand patterns of their ecological behavior. Previous studies focus on the overall situation and affectingfactors, but lack of individual differences study. Only when we find out the individual differences canwe put forward more targeted policies and measures. This paper mainly studies the individualdifferences in ecological behaviour of peasants at Taihang Mountain area in Hebei province. We made a questionnaire according to the previous measuring scale to investigate the differentbehaviour from different gender, age, education level, income level, job occupation and residence. Aftervalidating the reliability and validity of the questionnaire with SPSS19.0, we make a Kruskal Wallis Testwith the data. The result shows that:1.Their ecological awareness is relatively high, ecological behaviorfollows. Both are above average levels. Ecological knowledge is below average levels. And it obviouslyshows out that peasants are lack of ecological knowledge, they have relatively strong awareness, theirbehavior is behind the awareness, and ecological production behavior is behind ecological life behavior.2. Gender differences are not significant, but women are in all aspects slightly better than men.3. Agedifferences are significant, the general trend is that the youngers have better ecological performancethan the seniors.4. Education level differences are significant, the general trend is that it is positivelyrelated to the education level. The higher the education level, the better the ecological behavior.5.Income level differences are significant, it is positively related to the income level. The higher theincome level, the better the ecological behavior.6. Job occupation differences are not significant, butpeasants who do business or take multiple occupations have better ecological behavior.7. Residencedifferences are significant, it is negatively related to the distance from the city. The farther away, theworse the ecological behavior. We put forward the following suggestions:1. Encourage the women to drive the men.2.Strengthen ecological education to the seniors.3.Schools should strengthen instilling ecologicalknowledge, and make it throughout all stages of education.4. Stimulate environmental welfare needs oflow-income peasants.5. Provide more access to ecological information to the remote areas. Strengthenenvironmental supervision, and improve environmental infrastructure.
