With the development of information technology in education, information and communication technology has gradually become an important too! to support teaching. According to the latest Australian curriculum requirements, teachers must have the ability to use ICT in learning and teaching and language teaching can be effectively integrated with ICT, which means that the Chinese language teachers in Australia not only need to improve the ability of ICT applications, but need to master the methods and techniques of using ICT in Chinese teaching as well. However, current research on how ICT effectively applied to Chinese teaching in primary and secondary schools is very limited, so doing some research and summing up the experience in the application of ICT in language teaching is significantly important for the promotion of Chinese language teaching and Chinese teaching level. In view of this, I survey the theoretical and actual teaching by combining the application of ICT with Chinese teaching in primary and secondary schools in Victoria, Australia to do some research and sum up the experience for reference.Practical value of this thesis is mainly reflected in the actual use of ICT in the case of Chinese language teaching in primary and secondary schools in Victoria. In hardware, detailing the interactive whiteboards and Polycom’s unique features in teaching applications; in software, the main websites of the popular Chinese language teaching and iPad applications are introduced. Some application examples and issues have been introduced in actual teaching on the using of ICT.80copies of the questionnaire, of which75had feedback were administrated, also we conducted in-depth interview with80teachers. With my observation in Victoria public schools as a teaching assistant during the Chinese teaching, we found that ICT plays a very important role Chinese language teaching in primary and secondary school in Victoria, according to the comments of70%students of the total sample. But there existed some problems during the promotion of ICT:1) teachers had limited knowledge about ICT, and were not familiar with its use;2) ICT training was not customized, and targeted only for software and hardware operations, not very relevant with the actual teaching;3) most software of ICT application was applicable for a wide range of subjects, for some specific subject, such as Chinese teaching, it did not develop the application. So teachers had to spend lots of time and energy to make preparation, which leading some teachers are reluctant to use it and limited the application of ICT. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes that, efforts were needed in fields of:the establishment of a blog related with Chinese language teaching; flexible and diverse ICT training for Chinese language teachers; rational use of ICT in teaching; enhanced features of individual subject of teaching software.
