Since the21st century, computer science, communications and other fieldsof technology have obtained high-speed development, and Wireless SensorNetworks (WSN), as a kind of interdisciplinary integration technique, hasdeveloped rapidly too. Compared to traditional wireless networks, WSN has itsown characteristics, so some existing research results about wireless networksare not completely suitable for WSN. Routing technologies play a vital role incommunication networks. In view of the nodes in WSN having limited resource, the design of routing protocol should be simple, and try to minimize theinformation which nodes need to maintain, and control the scope ofdissemination of information, to reduce unnecessary traffic and extend thelifetime of networks. Minimum-hop routing protocol is based on node’scommunication range to establish the communication path between nodes. Thisprotocol is very simple, and has smaller requirements for nodes in WSN.Additionally, because MIMO technology has unique advantage in system channelcapacity and spectrum utilization, it began to be applied to the wireless networks, gradually. Now many MAC protocols based on MIMO technology have beenproposed, such as MIMA (Mitigating Interference using Multiple Antennas)protocol, PRP (Parallel RTS Processing) protocol, DACW (Dynamic Adjust CTSWaiting time protocol) protocol and so on, which has resolved the problem ofparallel data transmission in the wireless networks, and improved the throughputof the networks. In this article, we will present a new routing protocol-MCOR(MIMO and Communication-region based On-demand Routing), and thisagreement makes some appropriate improvements on the following aspects:(1) In the light of the deficiencies of forwarding path, flow concentrationand RREQ transmission strategy in minimum-hop routing, MCOR protocolmakes some appropriate improvements to improve the performance of the wholenetworks.(2) Optimizing the path choice according to the protocol used on link-layerbased on MIMO technology, MCOR reduces the number of control packetexchange on link-layer and energy consumption of nodes, and improves theperformance of networks. At the end of this paper, we make some simulations for MCOR on QualNet,and compare it with AODV (Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector). Meantransmission delay in the networks using MCOR is lower than that using AODV,but as the density of nodes in networks increases, MCOR performances worse on the rate of packet delivered successfully. This paper also verifies that pathselection based on MIMO technology can reduce the delivery of controlinformation in networks, and optimize the use of energy.
