Assigning motion template to characters through motion editing and motion retargeting to generate character animation is of great value in the area of CAD. While the technology is mostly used in cartoon animation, there lacks the solution for animating the originally static characters in fresco paintings.We introduced a system solution for the dynamic display of characters in fresco paintings, the system takes images of fresco paintings copied by artists as input. Then taking the character postures in the paintings as references, the character motion template is generated through motion editing where IK configuration and key frame interpolation technology is used. The character skeleton is then skinned and imported to3D Animation softwares (Eg. Blender) where it will be rendered into the final animation clip with a fresco character.According to the aforementioned system solution, we implemented an frescos style character animation system with basic motion editing functions and designed related software interface to the standard animation pipeline.Motion retargeting methods will be considered in our future work to deal with the problems that may arise in our current system due to the lack of reference images.
