Compared to classic passive frequency selective surface(FSS), the resonancecharacteristics of the reconfigurable frequency selective surface can be changed.Reconfigurable frequency selective surface can adapt to the changes in the externalelectromagnetic environment and overcome traditional frequency selective surfaceshortcomings. Plane reconfigurable FSS has been investigated for years. But in practicalapplications, many devices are not planar structure, and conformal frequency selectivesurface is needed in some areas. It is of important significance to study conformalfrequency selective surface.In this paper, the basic principle of the frequency selective surface and theanalytical methods of the frequency selective surface are given firstly. Then applicationsof frequency selective surface and how to suppress the grating lobes are also introduced.The resonance characteristics of the annular band stop frequency selective surface areanalyzed.Secondly, a new broadband frequency selective surface is designed, whoseband-pass is from2GHz to6GHz, and band-stop from7GHz to18GHz band. At thesame time, FSS maintains the stability of the resonance characteristics as the angle orpolarization of the incident wave changes. The effect on the resonance characteristics ofbroadband frequency selective surface caused by loading capacitance or inductance isstudied in detail. Furthermore, a new broadband reconfigurable frequency selectivesurface is achieved when capacitance and inductance are loaded at the same time,.Finally, conformal frequency selective surface is studied. The resonancecharacteristics of FSS which has intermittent cross structure is different from continuousone. These two planar structures are made into a conformal frequency selective surface.And a configurable antenna system based on conformal frequency selective surface isdesigned which combines conformal FSS with an omni-directional antenna. Theomni-directional radiation pattern is converted to a directional pattern by using thisantenna system. A360scan of the directional pattern in the horizontal plane is achieved by rotating the reconfigurable antenna system.
