With the continuous development of WMNs, various standards are promulgated. The WMNs are widely used in military, digital city, emergency communications, intelligent transportation and many other areas. IEEE802.11s Working Group issued the draft version of D0.01in2006and it has been advanced to D12.0so far. Compared with D0.01, the D12.0has been greatly improved in the network self-healing, power, security, ad hoc network performance and the other aspects. But the draft still faces challenges in many aspects.In this article, we select the WMNs theory and IEEE802.11s draft as research subjects, and analyze the various existing Ad hoc network protocols. Study on the design and realization of802.11s based on the Linux kernel, and makes the802.11s Mesh protocol networking to be successfully realized on the hardware platform. Then test the performance of wireless networks and analyze the advantages and disadvantages from the results. In this paper, the main contents are as follows:(1) Achieve the networks design. The research on the design of802.11s in the Linux kernel, including the creation of the mesh device, the realization of send and receive process, the realization of default routing protocol HWMP and Mesh agreement; Achieve the design and realization of802.11s on the hardware platform, including compile802.11s, module design, the Mesh node design; networking Networking solutions design, including the hop count design, networks topology, node layout and so on.(2) Test the performance of wireless networks of three protocols that is802.11s AODV and OLSRD in two kinds of hop count, which including bandwidth and transmission rate in TCP mode; the delay jitter and packet loss rate in UDP mode. From the data results, we can know the influence of wireless network performance of the protocols when hop count changes, the comprehensive comparison of three protocols network performance, the congestion problems and so on. Final conclusion: in the three protocols network, the802.11s agreement Mesh network has the advantage of high bandwidth, high data rate, low jitter and small data packet loss rate. When the network hop count increased,802.11s network performance is affected by the minimum and it still maintain a high quality and stable network performance. But the802.11s wireless network prone to congestion when transmit larger packets.
