In the aerospace field, still and motion images always require processing in thesame system simultaneously in the practical applications. However, the statisticalcharacteristic of the two is different, if the system consists of two compressionsub-systems, the special requirements of aerospace applications such as complexity,reconstructed image quality, reliability and power consumption will not be meet. In thispaper, a satellite-carried image compression algorithm for both still and motion imagesis studied, and a real-time decompression software program is proposed andimplemented.The image compression standard JPEG2000, video compression standard H.264are introduced respectively, and the compression algorithm for both still and motionimages proposed by the team before is studied. This system is based on independentspanning tree encoding based fast SPIHT algorithm, using inner-frame discrete wavelettransform to compress still images, inner-frame discrete wavelet transform combinginter-frame discrete cosine transform to compress motion images, and united rateoptimized truncation to get the encoded data. The experimental results demonstrate thatthe algorithm can meet the technical requirements of satellite-carried imagecompression system in the aspect of performance, complexity and reliability, etc. Onbasis of that, the author design and implement the decompression software program,which supports fast decoding and real-time playing, using multi-thread technology.
