With the development of high-speed expressway in the various provinces and citiesacross the country, people can travel faster and more comfortable to reach thedestination. But in terms of the toll station site, the increased number of vehicles thatbring greater gains at the same time, however, the toll lane is more crowded. In manyhighway toll stations, it has become a luxury for the vehicles to get through the tollstation which are always in the importation or exportation of a long queue waiting. As aspecial subsystem of intelligent transport systems, Electronic Toll Collection system isthe unique use of modern high-tech information technology on the road transportsystem. At this time, Electronic Toll Collection system has been widely tollmanagement system for roads, bridges and other adopted internationally. The maincharacteristics of the ETC system is that, the amount of vehicle tolls levied operationdone automatically by the computer design, the whole process without parking, tollstations vehicles faster speed through the toll stations.Firstly, this paper describes the development and research status of domestic andinternational toll collection system. Then, this paper gives a research to the keytechnologies of the three-lane toll collection of ETC toll system: Automatic VehicleIdentification system, Automatic Vehicle Classifications system, together with VideoEnforcement system. On the basis of the subsystems and then in a detailed analysis ofthe various components of the ETC toll system works. In the end, the paper establishedentire frame and systematic design of ETC combined with the actual situation ofChengdu-Mianyang expressway in Sichuan province, and achieved simulation of lanetoll software by QT programming platform. This article has a strong theoretical valueand use value. Planning and construction of the Chengdu-Mianyang Expressway ETCtoll system can be thought to do macro guidance and theoretical basis.
