With time synchronization technology being more widely used in various fields,time synchronization accuracy requirements are also increasing in the practical applica-tions.Traditional network time synchronization technology NTP/SNTP can not meet today’s industrial Ethernet requirements in accuracy,and GPS clock has the disadvan-tages of high cost,high risk and difficulties to maintain.In this context,IEEE standard for a precision clock synchronization protocol for networked measurement and control systems was born.The main advantage of time synchronization by using IEEE1588protocol is that it will not bring the whole synchronization system additional costs under the premise of satisfying the high precision. More importantly,IEEE1588protocol can not only be implemented by software,but also by software and hardware together. When packet timestamp is supported by hardware,we can get a higher time synchronization accu-racy.At first,this paper briefly introduces the two core algorithms in IEEE1588pro-tocol,best master clock algorithm and local clock synchronization algorithm.Then the feasibility of realizing IEEE1588time server by using DP83640on ARM platform is analyzed by describing the PHYTER DP83640feature on supporting the IEEE1588protocol.Then essay talks about IEEE1588system frame-work and a detailed analysis of the work flow and theory of each software module.Finally,some of the assumptions made before are verified by doing some tests about the accuracy of the IEEE1588time server,and then the article proposes the ef-fective programs to improve the precision,which is verified in the following tests.
