Library Reading Service Evaluation And Empirical Research

In the context of national reading, all types of libraries around the world carried out avariety of reading promotion activities. From the characteristics of view, library readingservice is a targeted service focused on users’ demands, it is a flexibility service viewing fromusers’ reading behaviors, and it is a universal popularity service for the purpose of promotingreading literacy. It is the special characteristic of library reading service,that makes thereading promotion activities carried out smoothly.However,whether these activities carriedout by the libraries play the role of promoting reading, whether libraries satisfied the users’reading needs, there is still no integral library evaluation criteria to evaluate.In the context of this situation, this study build a library reading service evaluationsystem, to evaluate the effect of library reading service from the readers’ angle. Firstly,byreferring to the existing library service evaluation system, and soliciting many opinions ofexperts in this field, this study build a library reading service evaluation criteria whichincludes four first level indicator: reading service resources and environment, reading servicestaff, reading service content and reading service quality. There are12secondary levelindicators following the first level indicators respectively. Secondly,calculate the weights ofthe first level indicators and secondary indicators using the analytic hierarchy process（AHP）and works out the score level standard of library reading service. Finally,The author selecteda library as the study object. Then carried out a empirical research by using the library readingservice evaluation criteria. By issuing questionnaires to survey the library readers and byusing Likert-type scale to calculate the index scores of the library’s indicators statisticalanalysis, this paper fond out that the library reading service is at a general level. Contrastingthe four indicators, we can see, the library should be focus on improving reading serviceresources and environment, try to perfect reading service staff, reading service content andreading service quality, so it can better promote reading under the background of nationalreading.
