Smart Home is a novel living environment which utilizing computers andnetworks to connect and coordinate the household appliances to form an advancedhouse.As the increment of household requirement and the development of theinformation technique, the household demand presents diversified and personalizedcharacteristics which heating up the concept of smart home and became the newleader of emerging consumer attitudes and household electric appliance market.The implement of smart home needs not only connecting the appliances together,but also running services on these devices. As the demand of customers becomingmore and more complex, single home service can’t meet the diversified andpersonalized market demand. Therefore digital home service suppliers started tocomposite existing services to create new high-quality home service.Existing researches use specification of SOA architecture as the uniformdescription format for smart home service which can avoid the constraint ofcompositing services between different platforms to implement the coordination ofsmart home services with different communication standards. But as XML is not aformal language and cannot provide semantic description for the Web Services of thesmart home service, smart home service composition framework based on SOAarchitecture mostly use keyword-based search algorithm to discover, select andcomposite smart home services, which suffering polysemy and synonym problems.For the above problems, this paper introduces a novel smart home servicecomposition platform based on sequential function decomposition tree. This researchincludes the following three aspects.(1) By analyzing the relationship between household demand and smart homeservice, this paper constructs a Smart Home Service Ontology to implement thesemantic-based smart home service indexes. Firstly this paper divides service functions into five categories according to their operation process to information.Then thin them according to their concrete implementation to construct a detailedconcept hierarchy of home service function.(2) Proposed a home service composition model based on smart home servicefunction ontology. Compared to the traditional model based on SOA architecture, thismodel has two benefits. First, it extends the WSDL file of the service to includesemantic information of digital home service functions. Second, it extends the registerof the service by connection it to the responded ontology instance. This paper makes adetailed introduction to the register, index and composition process of smart homeservice under the improved model.(3) Proposed a new method using function decomposition tree whichdecomposed the functional concepts of the composed service to compose the smarthome service. And this paper also extended the function decomposition tree both onlogic and time sequence, therefore the function decomposition tree could provide amore comprehensive expound of the service composition progress and therelationship of services between different layers. Finally, this paper designed anddeveloped a smart home service composition platform based on the sequentialfunction decomposition tree which allows the smart home service composer to use agraphical interface to compose services.
