Image fusion is a modern high-tech technology based on information fusiontheory, which synthesizes multiple disciplines and areas, including such as sensors,image processing, signal processing, computing and so on. Nearly30years, withrapid development, image fusion technology has been widely used in remote sensing,medical and other fields, especially in the field of national defense military. Due to theneeds of the battlefield reconnaissance, low-level-light and infrared detection andfusion technology research has become a hot issue these days.Due to the high resolution and high sensitivity of the human eye’s color visionfeatures, compared with low-level-light and infrared image gray fusion, color fusioncan obtain more abundant scene information, improve the scene’s depth perception,and improve the efficiency of target recognition and detection. In order to achievemore natural sense of color image fusion will usually adopted fusion algorithminvolving multiple color transformation in the spatial domain. The data to beprocessing in this kind of algorithm is such huge that real-time display is difficult andthe hardware requirements for color image fusion system is high, so the hardwaresystem and real-time display of color image fusion has obvious practical significance.In this paper, starting from the real-time performance of image color fusion, onlow-level-light and infrared images of PAL,multi-core DSP and FPGAarchitecture isadopted to accomplish image color fusion. We select TI’s high-performanceTMS320C6678multi-core DSP as a core image processing unit. Altera’s Serialtransceiver integrated FPGA EP4CGX150D complete image acquisition and imageoutput, meanwhile, the image transmission and communication between FPGA andDSP carry out through the Serial Rapid Input and Output interface implementation.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concept of image fusion, image color fusionand the development situation at home and abroad, and then puts forward thehardware architecture of the system and the main selection of the chip. From the aspects of image acquisition, image display and processing system is presented thehardware circuit principle design of each module. Then we expound the system powersupply network, and the content of PCB design. Simulation analysis was carried outon the PCB to ensure the stability and availability of the hardware system. At last, thedesign of system’s software based on the hardware platform is introduced.
