Satellite Images Compression/Decompression Technology Based On JPEG2000

In the remote sensing satellite system, the satellite receiver is responsible for receivingthe data which is captured by the satellite. If the data is not compressed, the amount of datawill be very large and occupy a lot of channel bandwidth. So the data compression systemis undoubtedly one of the most important part in the remote sensing satellite system.The major idea of this paper is to develop a system of images compression anddecompression for the satellite receiver. As the new generation of still image compressionstandard, JPEG2000with its excellent compression features and higher resistance to berperformance have been widely used in the fields of astronautics and aerospace. Firstly，weintroduces the principle of JPEG2000image compression standard, including thepreprocessing of the source image, discrete wavelet transform, quantization, entropy coding;Then the thesis describes the design and realized scheme of the systematic hardware.Wechoose the FPGA chip which type is Xilinx virtex6XC6VLX240T and ADV212as the coremodule.Next, according to the system requirements,wo chose HIPI mode for ADV212, thenrealizes the hardware circuit design and the making of printed circuit boards combined withthe FMC standard.Furthermore, we have designed the software implementation scheme,including the conversion of16/24bits BMP image to YCBCR4:2:2component image, chipinitialization, parameter configuration, the transmission of compressed code stream.Finally,we have a test on the compression and decompression system.The results show that the system satisfy the basic needs of the project.It not only cancompress16/24bits BMP image to JPEG2000format but also can decompress thecompressed stream to YCBCR4:2:2stream. The reconstructed image perform well insubjective quality.
