Panel is one of the most basic exhibit elements in the Museum. As an complementary approaches, exhibit panel plays an Irreplaceable role in the message-oriented communication Museum. The artifact is the main resource of the development of exhibition in museum and the most important function of the panels is to explain the connotation of the artifacts. In addition, guiding and exploring information, expanding consult and creating the atmosphere of exhibition enrich the role of graphic panel in exhibition. As an important medium to convey information, graphic panel requires the audience to read and understand, of which an important factor is the panel’s design. In this paper, the design of typography, color scheme, shape and the selection of metarial as well as the lay site are discussed, combined with the cases of outstanding graphic panels from worldwide museums, and are eventually integrated by an exhibition called "what is an animal?" in the Field Museum at United States. The graphic panel is formed along with the development of the exhibition and is closely related to the working methods and attitudes of the curatorial team. Those involved having good knowledge to cognitive science, communication studies, and design psychology will contribute to producing better panels.
