| With the development of the society and science, great developments have been achieved in our country’s journalism as well. Media plays a more important role in our social life due to its enormous transmission power.This thesis starts with the history of new China’s media system changes, puts forward the argument of this thesis, namely to strengthen the social responsibility of the media. This thesis adopts the method of literature research and the typical case analysis, chooses the representative examples in recent years and analyzes the present situation and the cause of the lack social responsibility of media. And finally proposed governance approaches for media’s lack of social responsibility from three aspects, i.e. the social system, regulation and moral construction.China’s media has become more market-oriented with the advancement of its system reform since the reform and opening up. On the one hand, this has injected vitality for the development of China’s journalism. However, on the other hand, some media faced many problems in the process of marketization because of the simple indexes in economic evaluation, low management and operation capacity, and so on. In the face of a conflict between economic interests and social responsibility, some media tend to the former. In order to survive, many emerging media even went into the myth of entertainment and vulgarization. Some of the news media often hide and distort the truth and mislead the audience consciously or unconsciously; some news media even violate ethics, infringe the public reputation and privacy, and so on. This news chaos caused people’s serious thinking about the media’s social responsibility.As the "mouthpiece" of the party and the people, China’s news media must shoulder sacred responsibility in spreading advanced culture, correctly guiding and supervising public opinion, and promoting the development of national economy. And they should not forget their own responsibility while pursuing business interests blindly. Otherwise it will affect the whole society and even the healthy development of the national spirit and psychological character.To strengthen the media’s social responsibility, laws and moral principles should be applied in restraining them. The government should strengthen the legislation, both to guarantee the freedom of the press and standardize the media’s power. The author thinks that strengthening the social power of the media supervision is also very necessary. At present, the self-discipline inside the news industry is particularly important, the media should perfect be the function of news public opinion supervision, and promote the realization of news freedom reasonably, therefore find a balance between news freedom and social responsibility. The mainstream media and its practitioners must internalize the news ethics into their will, strengthen the moral sense of responsibility, and establish a stable professional personal integrity and business ethics to reach the transmission goal. To win the trust and support from the public, the news media should give accurate, objective, fair and independent reports for all kinds of events on the basis of serving the society and the public. And express the mainstream’s moral connotations according to its daily report. As the practitioners of news dissemination enterprise, journalists are the main factors and power to realize its social function. And they should shoulder their social responsibility, and give priority to spread advanced ideas and guide the social progress.This thesis is committed to strengthening the construction of the media’s social responsibility. So as to promote the media towards healthy, harmonious and sustainable direction, and better fulfill the social responsibility the era have entrusted to them. It will also help to form a positive social culture environment with scientific civilization, therefore to promote the harmonious development of society. |
