Design And Implementation Of Network Monitoring System In Campus Network

With the development of information technology and the Internet, people’s daily lives areincreasingly dependent on IP networks. The scale of computer networks is growing and thestructure becomes more complex. With the increasing number of hosts, services and devices,controllability of computer networks has continued to reduce, or even some abnormity orfailure will cause great economic losses. Therefore how to monitor hosts, services and devicesin a real-time, accurate and efficient way has become a question worth to research in networkmanagement field.This paper has used EJB3.X and JQuery technologies to design and implement acampus-network network monitoring system, which is based on B/S Mode and has traits ofexpansibility, real-time and light-load. The system has three main functional modules: hostperformance monitoring module, network service monitoring module and networkperformance monitoring module. Host performance monitoring module is mainly used to gainthe runtime performance information of hosts in network. This module will monitor Windowsand Linux hosts. Network service monitoring module is mainly used to detect the runningstatus of services in network. This module will detect SIP service. Network performancemonitoring module is mainly used to measure the network performance data of devices innetwork. The system will show the history and real-time data monitored from three functionalmodules to network administrator in the form of static and dynamic charts.At present, the system has been deployed on the server in Communication&ComputerNetwork Lab of GD, South China University of Technology. After testing, the system achievesthe desired goals. The functions of three modules are able to run properly, in line with thesystem design requirements.
