With the rapid development of wireless networks, as well as the widespread use ofmobile devices such as mobile phones, laptops, PDA, Mobile IP switching technology has animportant impact on the quality of mobile services. the handoff speed of Mobile IP affectsdirectly the smooth which mobile devices transit from one subnet to another subnet,which canaffect the quality of mobile service.To meet the demand for mobility of real-time multimediaservices such as voice and video,achieving seamless handoff as much as possible is extremelyimportant.At present, the standard Mobile IPv6protocol and some enhanced schemes of MobileIPv6protocol have become mature, and they can achieve some low real-time multimediaservices.However, there are some disadvantages about them. For example, mobile nodes areinvolved in mobility management,leading to the complexity of mobile protocol stack. And theefficiency is still not very high,which can’t meet high real-time multimedia services.Therefore, the IETF proposed Proxy Mobile IPv6(Proxy Mobile IPv6, PMIPv6) protocol inAugust.2008which is a network-based local management protocol.Firstly,the article describesits background and foundational knowledge in detail,including the description about some keyentities, the registration process,handoff process and security mechanisms. Further, the articlealso describes PMIPv6simulation programs in NS-2.On this basis, I found that the PMIPv6simulation programs doesn’t implement thefunction of AAA server, which leads to some security issues possibly.Therefore, this article implement the the function of AAA server on basis of the PMIPv6simulation programs,in order to make the architecture more perfect.And the results have beenverified through simulation.In order to further reduce the inter-domain handoff latency and packet loss of PMIPv6protocol,the article proposes a enhanced scheme. Firstly, it briefly describes the handoffprocess, which includes the deregistration phase, re-certification phase and re-registrationphase.In this paper, the main idea of the proposed scheme is to complete some relatedoperations about re-certification phase before link disconnection,which reduces the overallhandoff latency and packet loss.Finally, the paper describes how to implement the scheme inNS-2and analyses the results. The results show that: the proposed scheme reduce theinter-domain handoff latency and packet lost to a certain extent.
