Based on a real design project-Apache Open Office4.0edition, this paper discussed analysis, research and design of the original version ofApache Open Office3.4interface and usability improvements and present ed in the newversion4.0edition. Apache Open Office has a relatively large number of user groups,according to the long existing toolbar tools that level deeper problems,4.0edition hasbeen changed greatly. In the early stages of development object, method of in-depthinterviews for demand and proposed solutions had been taken. The present andintroduction of Sidebar has solved problems of tools and high usability. And add thecloud service entrance based on sidebar-the join and interaction design of Extention.Extention is also an exploration in the cloud field of strategy for IBM.In this paper, combined with the IBM China Development Lab Apache Open Office4.0edition update, analyzed and expounded interaction design and user interfacedesign during the actual development progress of open source software. This paper hasintroduced, finding needs points through existing product study and in-depth interviewith users, making solutions options of interaction ways improve, communing withdevelopers about the whole process, finished the interaction and user interface designof this open source software-Apache Open Office4.0edition, and successful on-line on24thJuly finally. As the thesis is completed, Apache Open Office4.0has been downloaded more than77million times in just94days and widely acclaimed.
