With the rapid development of industry technology, fieldbus technology plays an indispensable role in the industrial field. PROFIBUS as the first fieldbus which is applied in the industrial communication fields, has been used by more and more field devices and instruments, and the PROFIBUS-DP is applied particularly extensive among the PROFIBUS family.Due to the rapid development of FCS over the years, some domestic manufacturers are developing and rolling out their own fieldbus products, therefore it leads to some obstacles and resistances when they access to major fieldbus systems, as there is no a general interface among different protocols, this leads to the increasing difficulty in controlling the entire network. However, the gateway can realize the conversion between two different protocols, it also called protocol conversion module, to packet and unpack the message from one network to another network, then realize the conversion between two different protocols or networks without obstacles.The content of this project is to research and design a protocol conversion module, which is take the LPC1788as the core processor, and coordinate with the VPC3protocol chip and DP master module to complete the conversion between PROFIBUS-DP and MODBUS protocol, and make this two network can communicate without obstacles.The tasks of this paper:1. To research the network communication technology of PROFIBUS-DP and MODBUS protocol, including system components, communication mechanisms, protocol analysis and so on.2. The design of protocol conversion module, including the overall design of gateway and conversion module’s design.3. Hardware design of protocol conversion module, including the study of core processor and other module’s circuit design.4. Software design of protocol conversion module, including the realization of MODBUS, the drivers of protocol chip, the realization of protocol conversion, and some test coding.
