Three-dimensional (3D) display technology has been proposed for more than170years, it breaks through the limitations of flat panel display and gives us a morerealistic feel about the world. There are various kinds of3D display technologies, andwe focus on the Integral Imaging (II). II is an important branch of real3D displaytechnology, which was first proposed by G.Lippmann in1908. Compared with other3D display technologies, II has many advantages such as continuous parallax, fullcolor, perspective, and no need of special equipments. We divide II into two kinds: resolution-priority II and depth-priority II, and weare more interested in the latter. For3D image pickup in II, direction and intensityinformation of the rays coming from the object are sampled by lenslet array, and aelement2D image which called elemental image will be produced behind each lensletin the lenslet array. We can reconstruct the3D object by use of a lenslet array whichhas the same specification with the pickup one. Depend on the principle of reversiblelight, the the perspective of the objects will be restored. For elemental images pickup in II, most of researchers use thecomputer-synthesized pickup method. We use the Maya software to establish thecameras array instead of the real lenslet array for3D image pickup. With the increaseof cameras, the time of elemental images pickup will increase rapidly, which hasbecome the main problem in II.In this paper, we use the principle of optical mapping of pixels in elementalimages to create a new cameras array to pickup elemental images. Using this pickupmethod, we successfully reduced the elemental images pickup time, and we call thenew camera array as transformation cameras array. The number of cameras intransformation camera array retains with the increase of cameras in original cameras array, and the elemental images pickup time using transformation cameras arraygrows very slowly. We created the transformation cameras using shift camera in Maya, and iteliminated the horizontal and angular errors which were existed in the transformationcameras created by target camera in3ds Max. The elemental images pickuped bytransformation cameras array are almost the same with which pickuped by originalcameras array, and difficult to distinguish with the naked eyes.In this paper, we also analyzed the principle of elemental images pickup bytransformation cameras array, and described the creation process of transformationcameras array. We first produced the elemental images which can display both the realand virtual image using transformation cameras array, and doubled the depth of focusof II. |
