| Commercial health insurance is an insurance that insurance company pays forlosses due to health causes through illness insurance, health insurance, disabilityincome insurance and nursing care insurance. As an important complement to thesocial health insurance system, commercial health insurance plays a significant roleto a country’s medical security.Commercial health insurance in our country started from the early1980s. Withthe development of the national economy and the improvement of living standards,commercial health insurance developed rapidly. It achieved leapfrog development inthe past10years. Health insurance premium income increased from¥12.24billion in2002to¥82.68billion in2012,an average annual growth rate of21%,higher than the average annual growth rate of life insurance15%.However, theproportion of commercial health insurance costs in our public health care financingis still very limited, the development of commercial health insurance is seriouslylagging behind of economic and social development. Health insurance premiumsaccounted for only10.2%of the total premium income in2013, far below the30%of the mature markets of Western proportions. Practical demand of health insuranceis far short of potential demand. Potential demand for health insurance rarelybecomes the effective demand. Therefore, studying the factors affecting the demandfor commercial health insurance has important theoretical and practical significanceto improve our health care system.Based on the background of the domestic health insurance market, we researchfrom the results of previous research of the factors affecting the demand for effective health insurance. Using cross-sectional data in2012of31provinces, municipalitiesand autonomous regions, we select the GDP, the total population of RMB savingsdeposits of urban and rural residents, education spending, the level of urbanization,degree of aging, the number of health care institutions as explanatory variables toestablish the regression model. We conducted an empirical analysis of demandfactors that influencing the commercial health insurance. And we remove invalid bystepwise regression variables. We know the factors that affect the health insurancedemands, savings deposits of urban and rural residents and the level of urbanizationis the main reason affecting the health premiums. Finally, respectively from thegovernment, insurance companies and consumer perspective gives suggestions topromote the development of China’s commercial health insurance. |
