With the increasing level of economic development and the public ’s growingdemand for medical services, the rapid rise of the pharmaceutical industry in Chinahas attracted the attention of government, business and society. Although China’spharmaceutical industry has made tremendous progress, but compared with developcountries, China’s pharmaceutical industry, there are still many deficiencies, such as:the number of firms, the market concentration is too low, there is no economies ofscale, lack of investment in research, science and innovation abilities, producthomogeneity, the lack of its own brand characteristics and features varieties.Currently, the pharmaceutical industry is facing a critical period of market structureupgrading and adjustment, but excessive competition and product homogeneity isbecoming more serious. Therefore, an appropriate merger and reorganizationpharmaceutical companies, to improve the pharmaceutical market concentration, theformation of economies of scale, thereby improving core competitiveness ofenterprises. In addition, the government needs to increase research investment, toencourage pharmaceutical companies to independent innovation, enhanceinternational cooperation, enforcement of intellectual property protection, thepromotion of sustainable development of China’s pharmaceutical industry. This paperattempts to industrial organization theory as a guide to the performance of thepharmaceutical industry market analysis as a starting point the status quo of China’spharmaceutical market behavior and market structure, digging deeper reason, at thesame time, learn from the successful experience of developed countries, to further explore the market structure of China’s pharmaceutical industry optimized relevantsuggestions.
