Convection is the foreboding of disastrous weather. Thus how to monitoring Convection Initiation (CI) is the focus of nowcast of the Meteorological field. In recent years, with the development of satellite remote sensing technology, the temporal and spatial resolution of satellite image has been improved significantly. At present, meteorological satellite FY-2 has been launched in China and high-resolution satellite FY-4 is to be launched during 2015 to 2016, which can provide better hardware support for monitoring convection initiation accurately.Firstly, software for sampling satellite data has been developed, this software can be used for observing and analyzing the change of multi-channel data during convection initiation. On the basis of statistics and analysis, the proper identification conditions and threshold can be obtained. Secondly, Convective cell is detected using extended maxima transform method of morphologic. On this basis, detecting methods of 4 typical convections (convection initiation, rapid developing convection, overshooting top and typhoon) are proposed:convection initiation detection is conducted via multi-channel identification of cooling of cloud top; Rapid developing convection detection is conducted through the combination of tracking method and cooling rate of cloud top identification; Overshooting top is detected via its physical characteristics; Typhoon center is located using density matrix and BT correction. Lastly, convective cell tracking is conducted using E-TITAN (Enhanced Thunderstorm Identification, Tracking, Analysis and Nowcasting) algorithm. In addition, ForTraCC (Forecast and Tracking the Evolution of Cloud Clusters) method is used for convective cell motion prediction. The experimental verification of our proposed methods is carried out on the dataset of meteorological satellite FY-2 in 2013 to 2014. It is proved that our detecting、 tracking and predicting methods can obtain accurate results which are approved by the experts of National Satellite Meteorological Centre of China. In general, our work can provide good support for the weather forecast service.
