With the continuous development of meteorological sector, increasing demand of meteorological services, weather fax map plays an important role in meteorology, navigation and other fields for achieving automated-operating fax service to provide fast, accurate and secure fax interaction mechanism and achieving timely transmission of information. Combining with digital image processing, informationalized and automated processing and analyzing of weather fax map can analyze and forecast weather more quickly and accurately and it can be applied to other systems, so meteorological and navigational fields will pay more and more attention to it.Based on the digital image information processing and information recognition method, through a large amount of analysis and experiments, combined with the own characteristics of weather fax map, key figure contour of weather fax was analyzed and researched in this paper. Solutions were put forward also. Follows are the main findings,(1)Pretreatments such as binarization of weather fax map were done; fixed information such as latitude and longitude lines was erased through map matching; and noise such as letters and symbols in the image was wiped off through the expansion and corrosion operation of structural elements.(2) Based on the hit-miss operation in morphology, a few groups of structural elements were added for contours refine processes and burrs and other noise were removed; for broken contours, the improved method of minimum point pair was raised to match breakpoints and connect and repair broken contours; contours were extracted by tracking from this point to another, data compaction was done through extracting feature points, and vectorization of contours was completed.(3) Data sampling on known contours was carried out by search along axis, locations of data points were determined by linear interpolations and the method of multiple sampling to acquire a large amount of data points; interpolated curve of contours after vectorization was get by data screening and data compaction on data points.(4) Based on constant pressure chart of vector data,3D surface of barometric surfaces was reestablished respectively through uniform mesh surface, triangular mesh surface and B-spline Surfaces.
