As one of the classic unsaturated clay, expansive clay has complex engineering characteristics. A wide area of micro expansive clay is covered on Chengdu area. Rainfall infiltration is one of the major triggers for slope destabilization. With the rapid growth of city construction of Chengdu, expansive clay slope destabilization occurs frequently in rainy season. So it is significant for landslide prevention to research the regular of expansive clay slope instability caused by rainfall infiltration. This paper, expansive clay slope stability of the Chengdu area was systematically studied through laboratory test and numerical analysis method on the basis of an overview of the relevant academic literature and current conditions. The main contents are as follows:1. A finite element analysis method have been came out for micro expansive clay slope stability in Chengdu based on the theory of unsaturated soil strength and double strength reduction after summarizing the previous research of unsaturated soil slope stability by predecessors, this method is realized in the software ABAQUS.2. Acquiring relationships of matrix suction and saturation through the experiment of soil water characteristic curve; through soil-shearing tests to get the shear strength parameters.3. The influence of expansive clay slope stability caused by rainfall intensity is analyzed through ABAQUS. The effects of the slope stability caused by different rainfall are acquired. The regular of pore water pressure variation and saturation with rainfall duration is also achieved. In addition, strength reduction factors in different situations are also achieved.4. Three-dimensional models have been established based on real project to calculate, that would be used for select a reasonable arrangement of anchor for the real project. The variation rule which founded by results of these series of calculation can be offered asreferences for landslide prevention of micro expansive clay in Chengdu.
