Map algebra has been extended to a wide range of geospatial GIS research from the initial raster sign production within the past decades. It proposed new models not only in visualization but also in geospatial analysis theory and technology. This paper aims to combine map algebra theory and technology to solve some issues in economic evaluation of regional mineral resources. As a new direction in economic geology research, comprehensive economic evaluation of mineral resources is macroeconomic policy-making needs in national and regional economic planning, development and utilization of mineral resources exploration and protection, and also the needs for sustainable development of the mining industry. In china, researches on economic evaluation of regional mineral resources studied later, it means the evaluation method is still lagging behind. Thus, Information basically rely on manual processing and transmission, using qualitative description and demonstrated analysis methods. Insufficient in applying modern mathematical methods and computer technology affects systemic, quantitative, comprehensive, reliable and practical evaluation. This passage is based on theory and method of map algebra, combined with computer technology and GIS.Algorithms which suitable for regional mineral resources economic evaluation are proposed and some evaluation indexes are successfully extracted. On the one hand, this paper analyzed the characteristics of the existing distance transform algorithm and pointed out its weakness in three aspects.Experimental comparison with the existing method show that proposed method provides much improved results, efficiency is improved by about 20%. Using the improved algorithm,Taking Zhenyuan County of Yunnan province V2 gold ore body as an example, it successfully identified index of traffic, power supply, water supply conditions of the ore body. The specific method is to use the distance transform algorithm, make roads, water, power facilities as a target point respectively, obtaining distance values of each grid which can represents ore body after the distance transform and orebody projection plane superposition, and according to the method of each index to ultimately determine the conditions of its effects. On the other hand, natural neighbor interpolation algorithm which is based on raster data is proposed, Breaking the conventional interpolation method which is only applicable to discrete points of limitations, so,natural neighbor interpolation method is not only applicable to discrete points, but also to the contour, even applies to surface (such as grid DEM), just convert vector data to raster data while interpolating. Through the contrast test, precision of interpolation is obviously improved after adding different contour lines data. In applications, for the individual ore grade boundary contour lines data, using the proposed method as interpolation algorithm to do interpolation can calculate the average grade of the ore body, combined with the projected area, average thickness, weight of the ore body, the volume of ore and the amount of metal are calculated. And verify the reserves report data comparison, the metal quantity difference is about 5.5%.In summary, distance transform algorithm and interpolation algorithm based on raster data are applicable to regional economic evaluation of mineral resources, it’s able to extract indicators condition successfully for regional economic evaluation of mineral resources. It provides a new method in Quantitative evaluation of mineral resources for the region’s economy, and expands the applications of map algebra.
