With the rapid development of industrial society, it brings a series of problems, suchas resource shortages, energy crisis and environmental pollution, particularly the energyand environmental problems which have severely hampered the development of economicsociety. Lead-acid batteries have been invented since150years ago, now it is still thebiggest-selling rechargeable battery, and it shows the vitality in renewable energy storage,low-speed electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Meanwhile, PbO2, as positive electrodeactive material of the lead-acid battery, is an important anode material which shows greatprospects in processing waste and other pollutants. Since PbO2has good conductivity andexcellent electrochemical properties and is cheap, it attracts many researchers’ attention.The chemical synthesis and characterization of cyclic voltammetry of PbO2werestudied in this paper. Firstly, we use low priced Pb(CH3COO)2as the lead source, selectedNaClO and (NH4)2S2O8as the oxidizer, through hydrothermal method and liquid phasemethod respectively, to prepare PbO2powder, and then then study the impact of differentexperimental conditions on the crystal and morphology of product. Secondly, we make thedifferent crystal structure and morphology of PbO2as we obtain of electrodes, and theirelectrochemical properties were tested by electrochemical workstation to study the effectsof different crystal and morphology on electrochemical properties of PbO2. The resultsshowed that, high purity α-PbO2and β-PbO2powders were prepared by using of chemicalmethods, it can controlled crystal morphology of PbO2more easily by changing theexperimental conditions, the morphology of PbO2can greatly influence its electrochemicalperformance, the electrochemical performance and service life of PbO2were improved byarranging the crystal and morphology reasonably. The systematic study of the crystal andmorphology of PbO2provides a new way to improve the performance of PbO2electrodesand it also provides a theoretical support for preparation of higher performance of PbO2electrodes.
