Inorganic nanoparticles, added to the polymer, can significantly improve the mechanical property, thermal stability and barrier property of the polymer, so it has become one of the modified method commonly used to improve the properties of the polymer. Halloysite as a kind of inorganic nanoparticles, has unique its properties. And studies on Polymer/Halloysite nanocomposites are very attractive. But the studies of poly (ethylene terephthalate)/halloysite nanotubes (PET/HNTs) composites are more scarce. In this dissertation, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) can be a modified filler, PET/HNTs composite membranes has been prepared. The barrier properties and other properties of composite membranes were influenced by HNTs through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tensile testing, Thermo-gravimetric (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and water vapour transmission rate (WVRT) testing.1)PET/HNTs Composite membranes has been prepared by melt blending method with adding HNTs directly. The above tests indicated that it was not obvious that HNTs affected the performance of PET, and when HNTs was the content more than 5%, causing severe degradation of PET.2)HNTs were modified by aluminate coupling agent(model,822), and silane coupling agent, such as KH560, KH570. The tests, such as contact angle measurement infrared, TG and DSC analysis) showed that HNTs were successfully modified by aluminate coupling agent or silane coupling agent, while modifying effect of aluminum coupling agent was preferably modifying effect of the silane coupling agent.3)Blent modified HNTs with PET, PET/m-HNTs composite membranes has been prepared by extrusion pelletizing and material casting. The barrier properties and other properties of composite membranes were influenced by the different contents of m-HNTs. The above of tests turned out that it was evry obviously that m-HNTs affected the performance of PET, especially the aluminate coupling agent content at 2%,and m-HNTs can be uniformly di spersed in PET matrix.when the content of m-HNTs was 1%,barrier property of PET/ m-HNTs composite membranes was increased by 14%.And the tensile property, the cry stallization rate and thermal stability of PET/m-HNTs composite membrane s were obviously increased.
