Coordination Polymers (CPs) have recently drawn the attention of many chemists as they possess intriguing topologies and potential applications in the fields of catalysis, sensing, gas storage, ion exchange and so on. Most of the CPs are constructed by the assembly of the transition metal atoms and multidentate organic ligands, and the N-donor ligands and O-donor ligands have been widely used. The flexible bis(imidazole) containing appropriate coordination sites linked by a proper spacer with specific positional orientation and it allows the molecule to bend and rotate freely when binding to metal centers which often results in structural diversity. The nature of the bib makes it easy to construct coordination polymer frameworks with helical chains and interpenetrating structures. In our this content, we choose the N-donor bis(imidazole) ligands and the other carboxylate ligands as our mixed ligands to construct a series of CPs, and we also investigated the properties and applications of the CPs. Full text is divided into four parts:In Part 1, the preface. This part briefly introduces the concepts of the coordination chemistry, coordination polymers, crystal engineering, the synthetic methods and the influence factors and synthetic methods in the self-assembly process of the CPs. In addition, we had also summarized the development of the flexible N-donor bis(imidazole) ligands and the meaning of our research. In Part 2, seven new coordination polymers (CPs) based on the flexible N-donor ligand 1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane, rigid carboxylic acids 5-bromoisophthalic acid and transtion metal ions Cd(II), Ni(Ⅱ) have been synthesized successfully, {[Cd(bib)(5-Br-IPA)]-EtOH}n (1),{[Cd0.5(bib)0.5(5-Br-IPA)0.5]·3H2O}n (2), {[Cd2(bib)(5-Br-IPA)2(MeOH)]}n (3),{[Cd(bib)0.5(5-Br-IPA)(H2O)2]·H2O}n (4), {[Cd(bib)0.5(5-Br-IPA)(H2O)]}n (5),{[Ni(bib)(5-Br-IPA)(EtOH)}n (6),{[Ni(bib) (5-Br-IPA)(EtOH)}n (7), (bib=1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane,5-Br-IPA= 5-bromoisophthalic acid). The synthesized CPs have been characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectra, fluorescence spectrometry, and thermogravimetric analysis, which are expected to find potential application value. In Part 3, five new coordination polymers (CPs) based on flexible N-donor ligand 1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane, flexible or rigid carboxylic acids and a series of transtion metal ions have been synthesized, [Zn(bib)(2,2’-TDA)]}n (8), {[Co0.5(bib)0.5(5-Br-IPA)0.5]}n (9),{[Cd3(bib)(BTC)2]EtOH}n (10), {[Zn(bib)(5-TBIPA)]EtOH}n (11),{[Ni(bib)(5-NIPA)-EtOH]}n (12), (bib=1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane,5-Br-IPA=5-bromoisophthalic acid, 2,2’-TDA=2,2’-thiodiacetic acid, H3BTC=1,355-benzenetricarboxylic acid, 5-TBIPA=5-tert-butyl-isophthalic acid,5-NIPA=5-nitroisophthalic acid). The synthesized CPs have also been characterized as in the Part 2 to find potential application value. The last part is the conclusion.
