As a new detection method putting forward on the thermal wave theory, infrared thermal imaging nondestructive testing technology is an important testing technology of making up for the limitations of conventional nondestructive testing technology such as UT, RT, MT, PT and ET. It has become one of the most advanced and effective means of equipment testing. In this paper, according to the foreign and domestic research status of infrared thermal image detection technology, the author developed a set of thermal excitation technique basing on electromagnetic induction skin effect. The specific situation of the research work are as follows. In order to increase the temperature difference between defect parts and other parts, and achieve effective detection, the author built a thermal excitation test device, which is fast heating, high efficiency, good uniformity and is suitable for cylindrical structure. This thermal excitation device can give full play to the skin effect, and beneficial to the detection of internal defects in the specimens.Using large-scale finite element analysis software ANSYS to simulate the process of electromagnetic induction heat excitation, analyses the rule of different defects’surface temperature in the process of thermal excitation, determines the effects of defect parameters such as size, depth and location on the surface temperature distribution.Carrying out experimental study of infrared thermal imaging nondestructive testing aiming at the simulated defects in pressure piping materials. The author has been clear about the influence factors in the process of electromagnetic induction infrared thermal image detection, and has successfully detected different types of simulated defects of pressure piping. After analysis the surface temperature distribution of different types of defects, the best time to excite and detect has been obtained. The research results show that based on electromagnetic induction thermal excitation of infrared thermal imaging nondestructive testing technology can effectively improve the efficiency and reliability of the nondestructive testing. It has a wide application prospect in the defect detection of the pressure equipment.
