With the rapid development of manufacturing industry in china, forming machine tends to be larger and more automated. While creating more economic benefits for enterprises, the highly automated equipment frequently breaks down owing to its complex structure, which causes great economic loss. Consequently, fault diagnosis technology gets heightened attention from enterprises. In order to enhance enterprises’ productivity and market competitiveness, a control system and a fault diagnosis system for the SOOT powder forming machine are researched and designed by applying advanced industrial control technology and network technology.Firstly, according to technological process and design index of powder forming machine, a general design scheme is proposed, which takes programmable logic controller as the core and remote fault diagnosis module as the extension. Secondly, the hardware and software of the control system are designed based on the controller FX3U-128MR-ES. The hardware is consisted of frequency conversion control module, feeding mechanism servo-control module, clutch redundancy control module, zero point detection module, pneumatic control module, hydraulic control etc. In the meantime, control program has been designed on GX Developer platform. In addition, according to the demand of powder forming machine, telecommunication has been implemented based on GPRS wireless network communication technology. Thirdly, in view of fault characteristics of powder forming machine, a fault diagnosis expert system has been designed based on BP neural network, which includes fault database, reasoning machine and the man-machine interface. Finally, the main functions of PLC control system have been debugged in the field. Fault diagnosis function and condition monitoring function of the remote system have also been validated well.The control system and fault diagnosis system have been applied on the 500T powder forming machine preliminarily. The expected goals including the bottom control, spot monitoring and remote maintenance of powder forming machine have been achieved, which is valuable for practical applications of forming machine.
