Cotton fiber is natural cellulose fiber with excellent properties such as comfortable, warm, soft, meanwhile it has also some shortcomings such as poor wrinkle resistance, easy to shrink, poor keeping type, slow humidity releasing, low color fastness,low grade of products. Chitosan is a kind of biopolymer with extensive sources and huge amount of storage in the nature, and it has special physical and chemical properties and physiological function, at the same time it also has many excellent features such as biodegradable, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. At present, chitosan and its derivatives has built up a lot of research in the field of textile application, and the use of chitosan and its derivatives for modification of textile fiber is one of the research hotspots.This topic research is based on our years’ research. Firstly, three kinds of functional chitosan which are degradation chitosan, reactive quaternary ammonium salt of chitosan and quaternized carboxymethyl chitosan were prepared assisted with ultrasonic irradiation.Then certain concentration of three kinds of functional chitosan solution were configured,cotton fabrics were dipped treatment with a certain amount of time in the solution, cotton fabrics were modified through two dip two rolling, preliminary drying and curing processing. Finally, the treated samples were made a series of analysis such as weightlessness analysis, scanning electron microscopy analysis, infrared spectrum analysis,X-ray diffraction analysis, thermal analysis, breaking strength and breaking elongation analysis, wear-resisting performance analysis, anti-wrinkle performance analysis, and discuss the change of structure and properties of cotton fiber which was modified by three kinds of functional chitosan.The research results show that functional chitosan exist on cotton fiber due to cross-linking reaction with cotton fiber and make the surface of cotton fiber smooth and cracks reduced; because of the introduction of functional chitosan, the molecular structure of cotton fiber has also changed; but it will not cause cotton fiber internal crystallinity change obviously; at the same time, the thermal stability of treated cotton fiber has been certain changed; anti-wrinkle properties of the processed cotton fabrics is improved; but the breaking strength of cotton fabric treated with degradation chitosan is reduced, while the breaking strength of cotton fabrics treated with reactive quaternary ammonium salt ofchitosan and quaternized carboxymethyl chitosan is increased; in addition to wear-resisting performance of cotton fabrics treated with reactive quaternary ammonium salt of chitosan is good, wear-resisting performance of the rest treatment cotton fabrics become poor.Explore research of microcosmic morphology, aggregation structure and the change of certain performance on cotton fiber modified by functional chitosan were done, which can provide certain theoretical basis and research basis on further modification research of cotton fiber. Then it can improve its defects and enhance its application value better.
