White light emitting materials have recently merited particular attention due to their broad applications in lighting sources, backlight and full-color displays. In the past decades, reported white-light-emitting materials contain nanocrystals, quantum dots, lanthanide-doped inorganic materials, small organic molecules, polymers, and the lanthanide complexes. Benefitting from characteristics of lanthanide ion, the properties of complexes is excellent. Lanthanide complexes are constructed for white material aroused widespread research interest.Presently, there mainly exist two types of lanthanide complexes for constructing the white-light emitters. One is the single molecule Ln(III) complexes. The single molecule of lanthanide complexes white light emiiting materials had reported all have the property of solution dependent or concentration dependent. These disadvantages limit their potential applications. The other is lanthanide metal organic frameworks(Ln-MOFs) and lanthanide–organic coordination polymers(Ln–CPs). But the MOFs white light materials manufactured complex and the Luminescence efficiency is low. Therefore, organic fluorescent ligand sensitized model induced by white light rare earth complexes of study is of great significance. In this paper, we successfully synthesized eight novel bifunctional 1,8-naphthalimide-based ligands incorporating coordinated carboxyl groups and β-diketone and their compounds. By adjusting the length of the linkers of coordinated carboxylgroups and β-diketone between the 1,8-naphthalimide, energy transfer efficiency is effectively controlled. In the complexes, the ligands offered blue-green light, the sensitized Eu(III) or Sm(III) supplied red light. When the intensities of the blue-green light and red light are appropriated, they will emit white light. This method not only solved the disadvantages of singlemolecule Ln(III) complexes, but also simplified synthetic method. We created a new method of synthesis of organic lanthanide coordination compounds of white material.
