Hypercrosslinked adsorbent resins are recognized as efficient polymeric adsorbents and are used widely in adsorption and separation. In order to overcome the defects of low selectivity and severe tailing in adsorption-desorption of commercial hypercrosslinked adsorbent resins, the hypercrosslinked polystyrene-isocyanuric acid resin and hypercrosslinked polystyrene-melamine resin were synthesized in this paper.1. Two kinds of hypercrosslinked polystyrene resins were obtained by modifying the chloromethylated polystyrene resin with isocyanuric acid and melamin respectively. The chemical structure and pore structure of these two resins were characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption and FT-IR spectrum. The residual chlorine content, water retention capacity, swelling ratio of the resins were also determinated. The results showed that two kind of resins had lower residual chlorine content and more stable swelling properties and higher specific surface area.2. Adsorption behaviors of phenol and caffeine onto isocyanuric acid resin and melamin resin were tested in aqueous solution. The static adsorption capacity of isocyanuric acid resin could reach 73.76 mg/g and 42.56 mg/g(wet resin). The static adsorption capacity of melamin resin could reach 43.98 mg/g and 22.01 mg/g(wet resin). Above 93 % amount of the phenol and caffeine adsorbed could be removed, two kind of resin has not desorption tailing, the adsorption capacity of the recycled also very high, so it can be used more times.3. Adsorption behaviors of theophylline onto melamin resin and HPS-355 hypercrosslinked polystyrene resin were tested in aqueous solution. The static adsorption capacity of melamin resin and HPS-355 resin can reach 40.37 mg/g and 87.56 mg/g(wet resin). Compared with HPS-355 resin, theophylline adsorbed on melamin resin can be eluted more easily, and the adsorption capacity of recycled melamin resin is higher than recycled HPS-355 resin.
