This study is focused on preparation of aluminoborosilicate glass dropped with rare earth oxides. Based on the progress of glass fiber manufacturing, we have entirely investigated these glasses with the experiments of glass thermal stability, wire-drawing and dielectric properties. As well as decreasing the dielectric constant and loss, the glasses and glass fibers with better thermal stability and wire-drawing properties are obtained. The experimental conclusions are shown as following list. The researches about preparation of aluminoborosilicate glass, dropped with different content of La2O3 or CeO2 respectively, have been done. The dropping of rare earth oxide leads the rigidity of glass network to increase and then decreasing. This is due to the field strength of rare earth irons are higher than other irons in the glass, resulting in the rigidity of glass network enhancing by connecting anion group. However, more non-bridge oxygens are introducing into the glass network as the content of rare earth oxide exceed a particular limited, which lead to the depolymerization of glass network, finally the glass thermal stability and dielectric properties changing. Besides, a new crystal phase is discovered in the glass dropped with different content of CeO2, which lead to thermal stability decreasing. The properties of aluminoborosilicate glass with different CaO/La2O3 have been investigated. With the decrease of CaO/La2O3, the glass transition temperature decreases and crystallization temperature increases with a new exothermic peak appearing in the range of 900-1000℃, resulting in the glass thermal stability and density enhancing, as well as volatilization of boron decreasing for the inhibition of La2O3, which plays an important role in dielectric properties. Besides, the wire-drawing properties were improved. The radio of fiber is 71.19 um drew by RM-1 sample with the dielectric constant and loss being 4.84 and 0.0025, respectively. Which is better than E-glass fiber and it is fitted to glass fiber manufacturing. The orthogonal experiment shows that the content of B2O3 and CaO/La2O3 play the main role in dielectric constant, ant that the SiO2 and B2O3 are the significant influence of dielectric loss, while the glass thermal stability and wire-drawing property are affected by Al2O3 and SiO2. In view of discussions above, we have obtained formula of glass fiber, which is mostly fit to glass fiber manufacturing, with the 4.80 and 0.00218 in dielectric constant and loss, respectively.
