PC/AES and PC/ASA blends were prepared respectively through compounding of polycarbonate(PC), acrylonitrile-(ethylene/propylene/diene elastomer)-styrene ternary copolymer(AES), acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate ternary copolymer(ASA) by melt-compounding in this study. Based on the phase morphology and glass transition temperatures(Tg) for blends of different composition, measured by scanning electron microscope(SEM), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), we have studied dynamic rheological behavior of these blends. We attempted to find out the reliability of dynamic rheofogical method for characterizing phase morphology and compatibility. And the compatibility and rheology of styrene-maleic anhydride graft copolymer(SMA)compatibilized blens were investigated.(1) SEM and dynamic rheology results show that the phase of PC was inclined to form "Sea-Island" structure, when AES and ASA content above 50%. And the phase of PC-AES and PC-ASA were inclined to co-continuous phase structure when the content of AES or ASA within the 40%~50%. The phase inversion of PC/AES blends was occurred at AES content of40%-50%; and for PC/ASA blends, it was occurred at ASA content range 40-50%.(2) And about the dynamic rheological experiments, viscosity-composition curves of PC/AES and PC/ASA blends showed positive and negative deviation, negative deviation from the additivity rule, respectively; different composition of blends of Han curve of slope existed greatly differences in low frequency district; different composition blends of Cole-Cole curve were existed two a half arc.(3) DSC experiment results showed that, the compatibilizing effects of SMA on composition for 7/3 of PC/AES blends were obvious, and the compatibilizing effects of SMA on composition for 5/5、3/7 of blends weren’t significantly, and the compatibilizing effect of SMA1 was better compare to SMA2 on the composition of 7/3 of blends. When the SMA1 content up to 9%, SMA1 on the compatibilizing effects of blends were best, and when the SMA2 content up to 9%, SMA2 on the compatibilizing effects of blends were best. About the dynamic rheology experiment, as the content of SMA increases, the Han curve of SMA compatibilized blends opposed to the pure of blends blends was approaching, and the slope-difference-value decreases. SMA1 more level of decrease than SMA2. When the proportion of composition of blends were 7/3, the complex viscosity of blends was increased by adding SMA, and decreased as increasing SMA content, reach the 9%SMA1, η* of blendswas minimum, then continue to add the SMA, η* was increased. and when the content of SMA2 was 13%, η* of blends was meet the minimum within the scope of the experiment. However, when the proportion of composition of blends were 5/5 and 3/7, the η*-ω curves of different content SMA compatibilized PC/AES blends was almost overlapping.(4) For the SMA compatibilized PC/AES blends, when the SMA1 or SMA2 content up to 13%, SMA1 or SMA2 on the compatibilizing effects of blends were best in the DSC experiment results. Dynamic rheology results showed that, the heredity laws of Han curve of SMA compatibilized the different composition of PC/ASA blends, which was analogous to these of PC/AES blends. When the proportion of composition of blends were 7/3, the complex viscosity of blends was increased by adding SMA, and decreased as increasing SMA content. and when the content of SMA was 13%, η* of blends was meet the minimum within the scope of the experiment. However, when the proportion of composition of blends were5/5 and 3/7, PC/ASA blends as the same composion proportion with PC/AES blends, which compatibilized with reactive compatibilizer SMA, that the variation regularity of their compatibility was similar.(5) For PC/AES and PC/ASA blends, the effects of SMA were not only depends on the contents of SMA, but also on the composition ratios of blends, and SMA to the rich PC phase of blends of compatibilization are more effectively.
