Calcium carbonate is a kind of inorganic fillers which is widely used as additive and reinforcing agent. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region which this project located in has plenty of mineral resources, however the resources are only used to produce heavy calcium carbonate products and low value-added light calcium carbonate products. To improve the present situation, at the same time, improve added value and yield of the products, this paper takes lightweight carbonate project as the research object in which limestone and anthracite were used as material. By comparing the existing process, the batch bubbling carbonation method is selected to produce light calcium carbonate which is detailly introduced in this paper. Through the material balance and heat balance of light calcium carbonate production process, not only the output and composition of the main and by-products are quantitatively studied which help to determine the key equipment and technology parameters the technical parameters of key equipment are determined, but also the shaft kiln and carbonizer are designed and calculated. To increase the transmission rate of gas and liquid and improve the effect of carbonization, the carbonation tower is improved by designing the curved plate in this paper. According to the experience of selecting equipments and the principle of saving energy and reducing consumption, major equipments are formed and production process is optimized. By choosing rotary burden distributor and rotary discharge machine, concentration of carbon dioxide in kiln gas is increased by 6% or so; the energy consumption is reduced by 10% with the use of air compressor rather than air blower; The exhaust pipe of carbonizer is set in parallel to uniformly processed carbonation exit gas, so as to achieve the purpose of saving energy and reducing consumption. In addition, not merely flow chart of process piping and instrument but also process flow diagram are drew. Through flow diagram, the material flow and flow direction are presented clearly. Through the evaluation of economic performance, the feasibility of the project is verified.From what has been discussed above, this paper has a significance of tapping the potential of limestone mineral, and improving the industrial structure of calcium carbonate, which has given priority to heavy calcium carbonate, also has a lot of influence on further improving production and the added value of products. The design of PID and PFD chart has a certain reference value to the construction of the calcium carbonate project.
