Gallium and its compounds are widely used in broadband optical fiber communication, mobile communication, LED produces, relay satellite, personal computer, high speed signal and image processing system, collision and positioning system, no operating system, medicine and energy field, etc. Nowadays,90%of gallium derived from production of Al2O3by-products. The rest of it derived from leaching residue roasted zinc concentrate, Iron making, coal ash, vanadium extracted slag, smoke dust and so on.In this study, methods of recovering gallium from vanadium extracted slag have been researched. With the comparing research, the practical effects of main recovery methods have been investigates (acid leaching method, high temperature chlorinated volatile method, pressure cooking-leaching method, smelting reduction method, roasting method). The experimental results show that roasting method is a potential and efficient way to recover gallium.Through the study on structure and composition of vanadium extracted slag, it has been found that gallium is dispersed throughout all phases and there is no evidence shows that gallium has its own phase. As gallium is siderophile element, it goes with iron into cast iron during iron making process. So there might be iron oxide wrap around gallium oxide. Besides, gallium is as isomorphism hosting in the lattice of phases which is the major hosting ore for aluminum.New technology is put forward in this research to improve alkali-activation process. Influence factors of recovering efficiency (CaO and NaOH addition in roasting process, roasting time, roasting temperature, alkaline leaching time, alkaline leaching alkalinity) were analyzed. The result shows that roasting time and roasting temperature exert a tremendous influence. High temperature and long roasting time is not conducive to subsequent leaching reaction. With kinetic analysis, adding Na2CO3which melting point is higher than NaOH instead of NaOH in alkali fusion reaction can improve dynamics condition of alkali fusion process. What’s more, the process of leaching of clinker in accordance with shrinking core model.In order to obtain better leaching rate orthogonal method has been used in the experiment. The experiment result shows that the optimization of conditions by alkali-activated and alkali-leaching are:additive NaOH6%, additive Na2CO325%, additive CaO40%, roasting temperature1000℃, roasting time2h, alkaline leaching time1h, alkaline leaching alkalinity100g/L, alkaline temperature80℃, liquid-solid ratio5:1.
